The SLBS library houses
all of Saint Lucia's National standards, as well as a collection of
regional and international Standards. Journals, monographs,
pamphlets, catalogues, magazines and reports in many
fields relating to standardization also form part of the collection.
The library plays a vital role in supporting the information and
education needs of the organisation and its research work. Its
primary function is to serve SLBS staff and SLBS Technical Committee
members by facilitating access to relevant information sources. The
library is also open to the general public and more specifically
persons/organisations and businesses requiring standards,
quality, conformity assessment and measurement related information.
Affiliation with
other Standards Libraries
The SLBS library is
part of the ISO Information Network (ISONET). ISONET is an agreement
between standardizing bodies to combine their efforts to make
information on standards, technical regulations and related matters
readily available to each other. ISONET is founded on the principle that in each
country there is a body - usually the ISO member - which has a broad
knowledge of standardizing and regulatory activities in that
country.
As a party to ISONET,
the SLBS collects processes and stores information about standards,
technical regulations and similar documents generated in St. Lucia.
This information is available and exchanged with ISO members on a
reciprocal basis. Through this network , the SLBS library can help
users find information on ISO standards and on the several hundred
thousand standards and technical regulations in use throughout the
world. |
