TRAINING AND
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IN MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
Management Systems
are set up to allow an organization to meet its objectives by
managing its processes or activities in the most efficient and
effective manner. The work of the Bureau has concentrated on the
generic quality management system of standards developed by the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and referred to
as ISO 9000. In the ISO 9000 context quality refers to all those
features of a product or service which are required by the
customer.
The Certification
Department conducts workshops, seminars and/or company visits (made
on request) to give guidance on the interpretation, application and
implementation of the requirements of the ISO 9000 series of
standards. Similar training programmes are offered with regard to
the ISO 17025 for testing and calibration laboratories and ISO 15189
for medical laboratories.
Training is also
provided in food hygiene/food handling techniques. The Saint Lucia
Bureau of Standards conducts workshops designed to provide basic
knowledge of food hygiene, good manufacturing systems and strategies
for maintaining safe food production. The training programme
incorporates material on the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control
Point (HACCP) Food Safety Management System.
