The Saint Lucia Bureau
of Standards is a member of many regional and international
standards setting bodies. The Bureau is a full member of the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Caricom
Regional Organization for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) and the Pan
American Standards Commision (COPANT). The Bureau is an affiliate of
the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), American
Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and the British Standards
Institute (BSI).
The organisation
serves as the contact point for CODEX (the joint commission between
the FAO and WHO which is responsible for developing International
Food Standards), and is the Enquiry Point for the World Trade
Organization's Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT).
As
the National Enquiry Point for the World Trade Organization's Agreement on
Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT). the Bureau Point issues notifications on proposed technical regulations and certification systems in
Saint Lucia to the WTO and is also responsible for keeping the private
sector abreast with similar developments in other countries.
