SLBS Launches Food Safety Booklet

The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards is continuing efforts to promote food safety in Saint Lucia. With a new publication targeting consumers the SLBS is expanding its reach from food handlers to consumers who purchase food as well as prepare food for consumption in the home.

The booklet entitled “Preparing Food Safely: A Guide for Consumers” addresses basic food safety guidelines to prevent illnesses arising from unsafe practices in the preparation and handling of food.

This initiative puts the power in the hands of the consumer, with the necessary information to recognize good practice and to make demands on food handlers regarding the conditions under which food is prepared.

The SLBS has for the last few years been offering food handlers support with its Food Certification Programme which gives the assurance to consumers that the food being sold is prepared under safe and hygienic conditions.

The booklet will be launched on Friday 13th February at the SLBS office at the Bisee Industrial Estate at 10:00am.
