Welcome to the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards
(SLBS) website. The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards, was established as the National Standards Body in 1991 to develop standards, and to promote the use of standards in relation to product specifications, processes and practices.
This website is designed to ensure that the SLBS maintains an effective presence on the world wide web and is able to keep the world abreast of its work in promoting quality and
standardization on the island. Expanding world markets, new materials, processes and customer demands, drive the information on product specific legislation, standards and conformity assessment. Through the development of the website the Bureau will be able to take advantage of and improve its relationship with such
standardization bodies as ISO, IEC and CODEX which can only renown to the benefit of the local producers, manufacturers and other private sector bodies, whose competitiveness will depend largely on access to relevant timely information on standards and their ability to implement these standards.
The Bureau is the legal authority for regulating weights and measures activities on the island. In addition
the Bureau has been given the responsibility to develop a national
metrication programme, which will transform the way in which trade is carried out on the island.
The Bureau intends to use this website as one of the vehicles to further educate the St. Lucian public on the subject and promote the use of the metric system of measurement.
As the national reference source for standards and standards related information,
the SLBS website will allow for quicker access on the part of all parties to relevant standards information. The introduction of this site makes
the Bureau's services more open, more accessible and more visible to the general
public.
